[T. S. Eliot, contributor]. American Poets. Munich: [1923]. First edition, inscribed.

    More Information:

[T. S. Eliot, contributor]. American Poets. Munich: Kurt Wolff, [1923]. First edition. Presentation copy, inscribed by Eliot to his sister and her husband on the front free endpaper: "To George Lawrence Smith/and Charlotte Eliot Smith/from Vivien and Thomas Eliot/Christmas 1924/[underlined]". It is unusual for Vivien's (Eliot's first wife) name to appear in the inscription (in Eliot's hand), as they had a tempestuous and unhappy relationship. Quarto. [133] pages. Publisher's full green cloth, front board and spine lettered in gilt. Gallup doesn't mention a dust jacket, so it is unclear of there is a missing jacket or not. Spine sunned and worn, board edges also sunned and worn, endleaves a bit toned, front hinge just starting. A good copy with an excellent association.

    Gallup E.3.c.1.
