[T. S. Eliot]. Carl Vandyk (photography studio). Two Original Portraiture Photographs. London: Vandyk, Christmas 1930. Original photographs, inscribed by Eliot and presented his sister and niece at Christmas. The first portrait is approximately 6.5 x 4.75 inches, signed on a paper mount by Vandyk in pencil; the photo and paper mount are mounted onto a larger card stock sheet, approximately 13.5 x 9.5 inches. Vandyk's plate on verso. Eliot inscribed this mount to his sister, Marian Cushing Eliot: "For Marian / from Tom / Christmas 1930". Card mount has one short tear at bottom and one long tear (about 4.5 inches) to the right margin, neither of which interferes with the photo or the inscription. Some rubbing and both corners on the right margin are bumped. Very good. [Together with:] A second photographic portrait, approximately 6.75 x 4.75 inches. The photograph is similarly mounted onto a sheet signed by Vandyk and onto a larger card stock sheet (card stock sheet is approximately 13.25 x 9.25 inches). Eliot has inscribed this mount to his niece, Theodora: "For Theodora Eliot Smith / from her Uncle Tom / Christmas 1930". A bit toned, else fine. This portrait is matted, framed and glazed. An excellent pair. From a T. S. Eliot Family Collection.
