[Stephen King]. Norman Mailer. The Executioner's Song. Boston: Little, Brown, [1979]. First edition, first printing. With a long inscription signed by Stephen King to his close friend, Phil "Flip" Thompson, reading: "For Phil - / Can't tell you to 'enjoy' / this sad, dreadful story - / but it's Mailer's best writing / since The Naked and the Dead, / I think - and it will move / you. / Be well, / Steve / 9/28/79" on the front free endpaper. Octavo. 1,056 pages. Publisher's full cloth binding with spine titles in gilt and silver. Some wear, soiling, and staining to the boards and text edges. Very good. Accompanied by a photocopy of a 1987 letter from bookseller David John Turner of Carlson & Turner Antiquarian Books in Portland Maine, who purchased this book, along with the four other Stephen King books inscribed to Flip in this auction, directly from Thompson's second wife, Sharon.
