Smith, 1835-1838, then New York: Spirit of the Times, 1839-1844. A near-complete fifteen-year run of a sporting periodicals. Fifteen volumes; octavo (8.625 x 5.375 inches; 220 x 137 mm.). Monthly parts, bound September to August until 1838, then January to December, lacking October and December of 1837; some original wrappers bound in. Numerous illustrated plates inserted throughout, tissue guards. Later brown morocco, spine in six compartments with five raised bands, tooled in gilt, compartments lettered or decoratively stamped in gilt; boards double-ruled in gilt; gilt dentelles; top edge gilt; dark red marbled endpapers. Backstrips faintly dulled; covers with an occasional insignificant scuff; extremities lightly worn. Text and plates foxed; page edges a little soiled. Near fine. A handsome set.
