Epic History of WWI Beautifully Bound by
Bayntun and Inscribed by Winston Churchill

[Sir] Winston S. Churchill. The World Crisis. London: Thornton Butterworth Limited, 1923-1931. First edition. Inscribed by the author on the tipped in half title page of Volume I: "Inscribed by /Winston S. Churchill/Winston/Jan. 31. 1932." Six octavo volumes. [2, blank], [6], 536; 557; 291, 293-589, [1, blank]; 474, [2, blank]; 368 pages. Illustrated with facsimiles, portraits, charts, and maps, many folding. Errata slips between page [vi] and 1 and page 338 and 339 in Volume I, page xviii and ix in Volume IV (Part II), and page 8 and 9 in Volume V. Beautiful three-quarter crimson morocco bindings by Bayntun of Bath featuring gilt rules and gilt boxes and titles in compartments on the spine. Top edge gilt. Marbled endpapers. Bindings with trivial shelf wear; contents with occasional light foxing; lower corner of the half-title page of Volume IV (part II) expertly repaired, otherwise a handsome set in near-fine condition. Churchill's epic history of the First World War and its aftermath, as seen from his unique position as First Lord of the Admiralty (until his resignation in 1915) and later his active participation in the war. This is a particularly attractive set.
