[iv], 141, [1, blank]; [iv], 168; [iv], 163, [1, blank] pages. With all half-titles. Contemporary quarter brown morocco over marbled boards, spines ruled in gilt, brown gilt morocco lettering labels. Spines almost completely perished (only volume I still has its spine label), joints cracked, bindings worn, text foxed. A good copy of this rare Gothic novel (only one other copy of this title has appeared at auction in the last several decades).

    From the library of collector Reginald Cholmondeley with his bookplate in each volume (he was the owner of Condover Hall, and hosted Mark Twain whenever Twain would visit England; his niece was novelist Mary Cholmondeley).
