Fore-edge paintings depicting scenes from the Isle of Wight; Volume I depicting "Niton [Village]" and Volume II depicting "Arched Rock," artist unknown. Two volumes. Octavo. xxiv, 224; viii, 248 pages. Illustrated with engraved title pages to each volume and oval aquatint plates. Presumed Sangorski & Sutcliffe binding; contemporary full straight grain green morocco single ruled in gilt, spine stamped and lettered in gilt, single solid gilt rule to edges. Corners bumped, moderate edgewear, spine sunned and worn, joints just starting. Inner dentelles gilt, marbled endpapers, remnant of removed sticker and double bookplate of Charles Delaet and Coningsby C. Sibthorp to front pastedowns, pencil notations to front free endpapers verso, neat penciled fore-edge painting labels to front blanks recto. All edges gilt; foxed, offsetting from plates, engraved and regular title pages foxed and somewhat toned. Housed in olive cloth clamshell case; spine lettered in gilt, "Sangorski and Sutcliffe, made in England," stamped in black to bottom panel. Very good with bright, well-preserved fore-edge paintings.
