First collected edition, Kenneth Millar's copy with his notes written in pencil on the front endpapers, singling out passages on three pages (which he marks in the text) and providing broader thoughts, touching on his and Chandler's mutual interest in the American language. Octavo. [2, blank], [x], 625, [1, note on the type], [2, blank] pages. Publisher's light blue cloth, spine lettered in gilt and dark blue and stamped in dark blue, front board lettered in blind, publisher's device stamped in blind on rear board; top edge stained light purple, fore-edge untrimmed; in original dust jacket. Spine ends very faintly dulled; extremities lightly rubbed. A couple tiny sprinkles to the top of the text block, bottom edge very lightly soiled. Dust jacket edges lightly worn, particularly at spine ends, with a couple tiny closed tears and some very insignificant chipping at folds; spine panel lettering faded; rear panel lightly rubbed.
