Manuscript Prayer Scroll with Lovely Illustrations

[Prayer Scroll]. The hmayils (Pahlavi humav "blessed") are talismans in the form of scrolls that protect the carrier (traveler, patient, or any other faithful in need) from various calamities. It is a collection of prayers to Christ, the Apostles, many saints, the angels, the saint kings, and others to be protectors of the roll's owner, profusely illustrated with the images of the addressees. Manuscript prayer scrolls were produced starting in the Middle Ages, and continued to be copied until the nineteenth century, even after printed ones appeared. This prayer scroll is artistically valuable both in the execution of the illustrations and in the quality of the handwriting. The type of writing (called notrgir) was widely used in the 15th-17th century. The type of the illustrations seems to date the prayer scroll in the 17th century. The bottom portion is missing, and thus, the colophon, which could indicate the date and place, has disappeared. There is no mention of any carrier in the text either.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
