    Manuscript Prayer Scroll

[Prayer Scroll]. It appears that this prayer scroll had two different carriers, Avetis and Grigor. The name of the former appears in some passages, while the latter is featured in other passages; the name of Avetis' mother Gulvard is also a latter addition. The colophon includes the names of Avetis and Gulvard, and bears the date February 22 of the Armenian era 1300 (= 1851-1852), but does not include the name of the copyist or the place. The prayer even contains a short prayer in Arabic, written in Armenian characters, at the end. This sample belongs to the period of decline of this specialty: the text is composed in everyday handwriting and the execution of the illustrations lack artistic talent. A short portion of the roll is detached from the top.
