Alvin Langdon Coburn's First Major Book of Photography, Rare in the Original Binding and Dust Jacket

[Photography] Alvin Langdon Coburn. London. With an introduction by Hilaire Belloc. London: Duckworth & Co., [1909]. First edition. Folio, approximately 16 x 11.75 inches. 21, [3, blank] pages. Twenty illustrated photogravure plates after Coburn's original photographs, each illustration hand-pulled by him and tipped to a leaf. Original quarter-morocco over paper-covered boards, title lettered in gilt to front board. Original dust jacket. Boards rubbed, exposed part of covers darkened with minor soiling, spine partially dulled, spine ends worn with minor chips, front joint partially cracked, corners softly bumped. Dust jacket worn, lacking substantial portion of front panel, spine ends chipped, minor interior paper loss, edges rubbed and chipped with some wear at folds. A very good copy in a just fair, but rarely surviving, dust jacket.

Alvin Langdon Coburn (1882-1966) was "enthused by Arthur Symon's 1903 book Cities, and envisaged a series of publications on London, New York, Edinburgh, Paris, Venice, Liverpool, Birmingham, Boston and Pittsburgh. These would be a close marriage of inspired texts by a major writer interpreted by his photographs, as in his partnership with Henry James. He eventually realized publications on the first three cities..." (Foster)

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
