Volume II of Gould's Birds of Europe,
    with Ninety-Nine Hand-Colored Plates

[Ornithology]. John Gould. The Birds of Europe. Vol. II. Insessores. London: Printed by Richard and John E. Taylor, 1837. First edition. Volume II only. Imperial folio. Approximately 21.25 x 14 inches. [iv], [198] pages. With ninety-nine hand-colored plates inserted throughout. With original loose tissue guards. The plates in this volume are after artwork by John and Elizabeth Gould. Beautifully bound in contemporary full green straight-grain morocco, boards elaborately paneled in gilt, with gilt floral cornerpieces, spine tooled, ruled, and lettered in gilt in compartment, five raised bands, gilt board edges and turn-ins, all edges gilt, marbled endleaves. Armorial bookplate of the Harcourt-Vernon family. Some wear to binding, hinges just starting (yet still quite solid), some thumbsoiling to text and plates (thumbsoiling on plates is generally on blank rectos), some offsetting to text leaves from tissue guards. Overall, a fine copy, with plates clean and bright and with vibrant color.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
