Includes a consecutive run of loose issues of The American Magazine from December, 1787 through November, 1788. 882 pages. Some toning to paper with scattered light foxing throughout; some issues becoming disbound, clamshell case with faded spine, otherwise in very good condition. Housed in a custom clamshell case with titles stamped in gilt on a black morocco label.

Two years before the printing of The Federalist Papers, Noah Webster wrote Sketches of American Policy, outlining his ideas for a new government based on a powerful national government with strong executive authority and a Congress with broad powers to create laws. As editor of The American Magazine it is likely that he reviewed The Federalist when it was released in a bound edition: Volume I released in March, 1788 and Volume II in May, 1788. Volume I was reviewed in the March and April issues and Volume II in the May and June issues. Webster was effusive with his praise describing the essays as "excellent," "clear," "just," "valuable," and "very judicious." He complemented the author for his "great reading and profound knowledge of the principles of government" and concluded the "these essays compose one of the most complete dissertations on government that ever has appeared in America, and perhaps Europe... They will be useful in diffusing political knowledge" throughout America. Sabin 1135.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
