    More Information:

[Nebraska History]. Cavalry Tactics. Washington: Government Printing Office, 1864. Signed by two important cavalry officers. The first blank is signed by Captain T. H. Griffin and First Lt. David Smith, both of whom served in Nebraska, and were founding members of the First Nebraska Volunteer Cavalry. Sixteenmo. 450 pages. Illustrated with maps, plates, charts (some fold-out). Rebound in modern full brown cloth, spine ruled and lettered in gilt. Signed leaf is toned and chipped, with minor loss to inscriptions; text generally toned and thumbsoiled; some wear, chipping and some repairs to illustrations and maps in the back. Overall, a good copy of an interesting item. "Of the companies mentioned, the three in the Second Cavalry Regiment went on to an expedition to the northern borders, did good work against the hostile Indians, and, after serving thirteen months, were honorably mustered out. Company C, of the First Nebraska, re-enlisting at the expiration of the first term of service, in July, 1866, with the following commissioned officers: Captain T. H. Griffin; First Lieutenant David Smith." (Andreas, History of the State of Nebraska, 1882). From the James C. Seacrest Collection.
