The Large Paper Copy of Hughes'
    Natural History of Barbados

[Natural History]. Griffith Hughes. The Natural History of Barbados. London: Printed for the Author, 1750. First edition, large paper issue. Folio. Approximately 16 x 10.5 inches. [4], [10, List of Subscribers], [viii], 314, [20] pages. With double-page engraved map and thirty engraved plates inserted throughout. Contemporary full mottled calf, boards ruled in gilt, with burgundy gilt morocco corner armorial onlays. Rebacked in the nineteenth-century in brown calf, spine ruled and tooled in gilt, brown gilt morocco lettering labels, gilt board edges and turn-ins. Binding worn, joints and hinges cracking. Some offsetting and minor intermittent foxing to text and plates. Overall, very good with generally clean plates. Plates engraved by Mynde and Bickham after G. D. Ehret and other artists. Housed in later green cloth clamshell case.
"This book is one to place besides Catesby's Natural History." (Hunt). This work is perhaps the first to discuss grapefruit (the "forbidden fruit" of Barbados).

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
