Description[Miss Currie]. Edward Hutton. Highways and Byways in Somerset. London: Macmillan & Co., 1912. First edition. Fore-edge painting depicting "a view of Chippenham," signed, titled, and numbered 68 by the artist, circa early 20th century. Octavo. 419,  pages. Illustrated with etchings by Nelly Erichsen and 2-page map by Emery Walker. Rivière & Son binding; full orange straight grain morocco elaborately decorated in gilt and blind, spine decorated and lettered in gilt with five raised bands, solid double gilt roll to edges. Moderate edgewear, spine darkened, joints just starting. Inner dentelles gilt, blue endpapers; armorial bookplate of Marie Louise Maxwell Scott (engraved by Robert Osmond, 1932) to front pastedown, two ink stamps "H. Sotheran & Co." and "Bound by Rivière & Son," to front free endpaper verso, some offsetting. Internally clean and tight, all edges gilt; minor wear to gilt on edges. Near fine with bright, charming, though somewhat worn, fore-edge painting.
