    Description

[Mickey Spillane]. Mickey Spillane's Miller Lite All-Stars Western Costume, Including His Fedora, Shirt, and Beer Holsters. In 1973 Miller began a branding campaign for its Lite beer utilizing athletes and other celebrities. The first spokesman was New York jets running back Matt Snell, but as time went on others were added to the successful campaign's roster including Rodney Dangerfield, Larry Csonka, Frank Deford John Madden, Lee Meredith, Bob Uecker, and of course, Mickey Spillane. Throughout the 1980s Miller utilized their "All-Star Celebrities" for promotional purposes, offering them to their distributors for special events. This present lot includes Mickey's costume for a western themed photo shoot with his fellow all stars. The costume includes a black cowboy-cut western shirt with snap front and pockets, red trim and an embroidered rose motif across the front and back. The shirt is complete with red clip-on bow tie and matching arm bands (or are they garters?). Mickey would never be complete without his iconic grey fedora, and the example he wore with this costume was custom made for him by Wichita Hat Works of Wichita, Kansas. The leather sweat band is stamped in gilt: "Custom Made For / Mickey Spillane." This is a particularly nice example with silk borders along the edge. The black leather beer holsters included with the costume may have been Mickey's little contribution to the costume as the reverse side of each holster is stamped with a Murrells Inlet, South Carolina leather shop mark, Mickey's home base. Included with the lot is a 1987 edition of the Miller Lite All-Star Celebrity Guide with biographies of all the celebrities written by sports writer Frank Deford and containing the processes and procedures for booking personal appearances by the celebrities. All items are in excellent condition. From the estate of Mickey Spillane.
