[Mexican War] Autograph Letter from 2nd Pennsylvania Volunteers. Four integral pages written on pages one and two with address and Vera Cruz postmark on page four, 8.75" x 11", Jalapa, Mexico, November 11, 1847. Written to "Messrs. Yoke, George Slocum, and J. P. Davis, Wilkes Barrie, Pennsylvania" and signed "Frank". Some weakness and repair at the folds, else near fine. Frank scolds his friends, writing that they "must have forgotten that there is such a place as Mexico and that many of the sons of old Wyoming [Pennsylvania] are in it still alive and kicking. I am in great haste now, the train will start soon. The last letter I recd from Dr Yoke dated Sunday the 20th of June the day we were fighting at La Hoya. When you were writing we might have been making the charge or your humble servant at the time was more probably exposed upon a point of rock hugging it into the shins with his rifle or probably he was lying exhausted upon the ground calculating the chances of death by fire." Interesting combat content. From the Taking of Texas Collection.
