    [Martin Van Buren]. The Naval Temple: Containing a Complete History of the Battles Fought by the Navy of the United States. From Its Establishment in 1794, to the Present Time... Boston: Published by Barber Badger, 1816. First edition. Signed and dated "M V Buren / Feb 26 1816" on the title page; also signed by Van Buren's father "Abr V Buren / Albany" on the title page, as well. Octavo. With twenty engraved plates, including the engraved title page. Contemporary full calf with a red morocco spine label lettered in gilt. Housed in a custom red cloth clamshell box with leather spine label. Noticeable wear to the binding, with the joints partially split. Minor occasional staining and foxing in the text. Two leaves (pages 155-158) loose. Overall, a good copy with a presidential provenance. At the time Van Buren signed this book, he was the Attorney General of New York. Howes K135. Previously sold at Swann Galleries in 1984 for $400. From a private collection in North Carolina.
