Dedication copy of the first edition from the library of Louis XV's mistress, Madame de Pompadour, the dedicatee of the work and the originator of the role of Aegle. Folio. Contemporary full crimson morocco, rebacked, with original spine laid down, and with elaborately gilt-decorated boards with the gilt-stamped arms of the Marquise de Pompadour. Floriated endpapers, with Versailles bookplate to the front pastedown. All edges gilt. Housed in a custom clamshell box. Moderate wear to the binding. Light thumb-soiling to some text margins. Fully engraved vocal score for Lagarde's best-known work, a lovely copy. From a private collection from New Orleans.
