Signed by the author. Nine volumes, small octavo (6 x 3.75 inches; 153 x 94 mm.). [2], 179, [1, blank]; [2], 182; 202; [4], 146, 156-220, [1, blank]; [6], 150; [4], 155, [1, blank]; [2], 160; [2], 156; [8], 145, [1, blank] pages. One leaf with dark square on recto and verso in Volume I; two marbled pages in Volume III; line figures in Volumes VI and IX. Recent brown quarter-leather with brown cloth-covered boards; spines stamped in gilt with five raised bands, red spine labels. All edges trimmed and gilt. Minor shelf wear at extremities of binding; some discoloration, glue stains, surface scratches to leather. Edge gilding imperfectly done; worn away in some small areas. Very occasional light foxing and spot staining to interior of text block. Near fine. First two volumes lack imprint and simply read 1760; third and fourth volumes have imprint of R. and J. Dodsley; remaining volumes published by Becket and Dehondt. With Sterne's signature on the first page of the text in Volumes V, VII and IX.
