Appointed to be read in Churches. London: Robert Barker, 1611. First edition of the King James Bible, first state, known as "The Great He Bible," with Ruth 3:15 reading "and he went into the citie." Old and New Testaments married from separate copies. Folio (14.125 x 9.625 inches; 360 x 244 mm.). Title leaf and following twenty leaves, A2-D4; A1-A3, as well as C6, Xxxx5 and Xxxx6 are supplied in facsimile; Ss1 in partial facsimile. Map following C6 restored but with largely original content. F1 and Z5 of New Testament in partial facsimile, some other corners renewed with losses to text. The last leaf of Revelation, Aa6, supplied in facsimile. Recent deep reddish-purple goat, double-ruled and paneled in gilt with central and corner devices; spine in seven compartments, ruled and stamped in gilt, morocco title label lettered in gilt; page edges trimmed with evidence of previous stains; plain endpapers; strips of leather applied to strengthen hinges. Text shaved losing page numbers and some signature marks. A sympathetic restoration. ESTC S122347. Darlow & Moule/Herbert, 309. Printing and the Mind of Man, 114 ("the only literary masterpiece ever to have been produced by a committee").

"No evidence exists that King James' version received any definite ecclesiastical or legislative sanction (A. W. Pollard...) But it won its way by sheer merit, until gradually it displaced even the Geneva Bible in popular affection, and established itself as the sole recognised version of the Scriptures in English. Under the Commonwealth some steps were taken in 1653, and again in 1657, towards a fresh translation, but without result (Westcott...). From about the middle of the seventeenth century on to the appearance of the Revised Bible of 1881-5 King James' version reigned without a rival." Darlow & Moule/Herbert, 309

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
