    [Justinianus I]. Digestorum seu pandectarum juris Caesarii tomus primus [-tertius]...quod vulgo infortiatum appelant... [and:] Codicis domini justiniani sacratissimi principis ex repetita praelectione Liber Septimus [- Duodecimus]..... Paris: Carolam Guillard, 1540 [1548] and 1542. Three volumes of the Digestorum in six octavos and six parts of the Codicis in one octavo. Printer's device on title pages of volumes two and three, large and small decorated woodcut initials. Contemporary calf, blind stamped rules, fleurons, and initials "T D", all with title labels in leather to spine, fourth octavo with a paper label, bindings rubbed, few joints starting, hinges re-enforced all volumes marked with ink numbers on text block; scrap pieces of older manuscript leaves used variously as free and pastedown endpapers, some pages lightly cockled, few edge tears, dampstains, soiling, pen marks, underlines and holograph annotations.

    Volume One in octavos 1 and 2: [60], 309 [sixteen smaller numbered manuscript leaves bound in back]; 329-654 leaves. Lacking title page (small holograph pencil note on front pastedown indicates that Volume One is the 1548 edition), free manuscript end papers trimmed down, second octavo has holograph paper tab on leaf 448.

    Volume Two
    in octavos 3 and 4: [20] (yyi-iv misbound in index), 256; 257-536 leaves [six smaller numbered manuscript leaves bound in the back]. First and second octavos has holograph paper tabs on leaves 124 and 263 respectively.

    Volume Three
    in octavos 5 and 6: [28], 256; 257-535 leaves. First octavo has holograph paper tab on leaf 60.

    Volumes Seven - Twelve
    in one octavo: 473-827 [54] (fff1-iv misbound leaves in back of book).

    Overall in very good condition. From the Franklin V. Spellman collection of books published by French printer Charlotte Guillard and her associates.
