The Massive First Printed Edition of the Complete
First English Translation of the Bible by
    John Wycliffe

[John Wycliffe]. The Holy Bible, Containing the Old and New Testaments, with the Apocryphal Books, in the Earliest English Versions... Edited by the Rev. Josiah Forshall, F. R. S. etc., and Sir Frederic Madden, K. H., F. R. S., etc. Oxford: at the University Press, 1850. First complete printed edition of this translation of the Bible. Four folio volumes. Approximately 12.75 x 10.25 inches. [2], lxiv, 687, [1, blank]; [ii], 888; [ii], 897, [1, blank]; [ii], 698, 682b [sic] - 695b, [1, blank], 699-751, [1, blank] pages. Bound in publisher's plain binding of cloth-backed cloth boards (all printed spine labels removed). Most pages unopened. Bindings worn, spines chipped, (binding of volume II is heavily damaged, with boards detached), a few short tears in text, page 120 in volume II damaged with loss to two sentences, first text page in volume IV torn at top, affecting text. Most hinges reinforced with cloth tape. Overopened in only a few places (somewhat unusual for such large and heavy books). A fair copy of this massive work.
John Wycliffe (ca. 1330-1384) and his followers translated the bible from the Latin Vulgate from 1384, going against the policy of the Catholic Church of the time, prohibiting the entirety of the bible to be available in the vernacular language of the people. It became a crime for anyone to possess Wycliffe's translation. Wycliffe was posthumously declared a heretic; he was a precursor to the Protestant Reformation. The Oxford edition of the Wycliffe bible is the first printed edition of Wycliffe's entire translation, earlier printed editions only including the New Testament.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
