    [John T. Beer]. Charles Dickens. Bleak House. London: Bradbury & Evans, 1853. First edition in book format. Fore-edge painting to the closed edge by John T. Beer, "Pull's Ferry and Entrance Gate to the Cathedral Close, Norwich," signed to the lower right corner. Octavo. 624 pages. Illustrated with engraved frontispiece, title page, and thirty-eight plates after H. K. Browne. Contemporary half green morocco over marbled boards stamped in gilt, spine lettered and stamped in gilt and with 5 raised bands; one blue paper wrapper from the original serial bound at front, "No. VII September." Corners just bumped, moderate edgewear with some losses, somewhat rubbed with some scratches to upper board. Marbled endpapers, bookplate of John T. Beer to front pastedown with ink notation for the fore-edge painting and signed with Beer's initials. Internally generally clean, top and bottom edges marbled; unevenly toned, foxed chiefly in margins, minor text block edgewear. Very good with finely detailed but slightly dulled fore-edge painting.
