    The Rare First Folio Edition of Both Volumes of Ogilby's Translation of Aesop's Fables

Aesopic's: or A Second Collection of Fables, Paraphras'd in Verse: adorn'd with Sculpture, and Illustrated with Annotations. London: Thomas Roycroft, 1668. First folio editions. Approximately 16 x 10 inches. [vi], 211, [1, blank]; [iv], 231, [1, blank] pages. Complete with portrait frontispiece, frontispiece and 149 full-page engravings throughout by Wenceslaus Hollar. Contemporary full calf, spine stamped in gilt in compartments, five raised bands, black gilt morocco lettering label. Rebacked in brown cloth, preserving most of the original spine, most of the surface leather has flaked away from the boards, new endleaves. Title-page of first volume missing roughly three-quarters of leaf, corners of pages 73 and 203 restored in tape in volume I, and plate opposite page 125 in volume II similarly restored. Text browned and soiled with some wear and some occasional tears. A good copy of this magnificently illustrated edition. Sold with all faults, and not subject to return. The portrait frontispiece of Ogilby is not always present. Wing A697, A698.
