Twenty-three two-page hand-colored engraved maps of the Americas (one inserted, others unpaginated but contiguous with text). Title vignette, initials, tail-pieces. Contemporary vellum-covered boards; spine decorated and lettered in gilt; boards stamped with gilt paneled floral design; with green silk ribbon closures. All edges trimmed and gilt. All gatherings guarded. Some edge wear to binding, particularly at head and foot of spine; rubbing, with some subtle loss to gilt; corners bumped; normal soiling to vellum; surface scratches to boards; ribbons frayed, mostly gone. Some wear, scuffing to edges of text block. Scattered toning, foxing to interior of text block; occasional marginal splash, damp and thumbsoiling. Very good. The eleventh volume of Blaeu's Atlas Maior, one of the largest and most expensive Dutch atlases of its kind, in its original Latin edition.
