    Illuminated Leaf of Music:
    Introit for Pentecost

    [Illuminated Manuscript]. Medieval Manuscript Leaf with a Large Illuminated Initial "S" from a Fifteenth Century Antiphonal: "Spiritus domini replevit orbem terrarus..." Introit for Pentecost, Whitsunday Mass. France: circa 1480. Double sided vellum leaf. Approximately 6.75 x 9.5 inches. Recto: Large initial "S" in blue and white on a gold ground bordered in red with strawberry plants. Eight four line staves in red with black notes and black gothic text with two smaller gilt initials and some text in red. Verso: eight staves with two gilt initials. Contemporary holograph writing on upper left corner of recto, unobtrusive tape remnants in right margin of verso from old mounting, small holograph pencil book dealer's marks in corners of both sides, light soiling, light edge wear, small holes along the inner edge from previous binding; else in very good condition.
