    More Information:

The story runs that Mariana Alcaforado was a seventeenth-century nun who wrote these poems to a French Officer who she was in love with (hers was an unrequited romance); however these poems are by the Vicomte de Guilleragues (who had been thought of only as the translator). This book marked Matisse's first association with Tériade, and is a lovely and haunting work. Duthuit 15. Barr 560.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
