Translated out of Frensshe in to Englysshe by William Caxton at Westmynstre in the yere of oure Lorde .m.ccc.lxxxiii [sic]. San Francisco: The Graborn Press, 1930. One of 25 special copies printed for Herbert Lionel Rothchild (who signs and numbered the copies, this being 23 of 25 [and with the original printed recipient's name blacked out]), out of a total edition of 200 numbered copies. Octavo. [8], 167, [1] pp. Title-page illustration and six head-pieces drawn and hand-colored by Valenti Angelo. Colophon, six initials, and 117 pictorial initials by Valenti Angelo printed in red, paragraph marks printed in green. Valenti Angelo has added an extra-illustration and captioned it as such on page 119. Printed in Koch Bibel Gotisch on Unbleached Arnold paper. Original red crushed morocco. Gilt-lettered spine with raised bands. Covers lightly scuffed, dampstain to backstrip and joints that does not seem to touch sheets, joints rubbed and starting, spine a bit faded, front endpapers with old description attached, and previous owner (and bookseller) penciled notes. Bottom margins of sheets very slightly cockled, some deckles on fore-edges of sheets slightly browned. Otherwise a very good copy. Housed in red cloth slipcase. One of the Fifty Books of the Year. Grabhorn Bibliography 142. From the collection of California bibliophile Melba Berry Bennett.
