Original dark brown cloth over boards. Gilt letters on spine. Blind-stamped designs to front and rear boards. Bookplate of previous owner on front pastedown. Inked name of previous owner on front free endpaper. Very minor bookworm damage to the inside of the rear board. Some light dampstaining to lower region of several pages both in the front and rear of the book. The map is in excellent condition. A very good copy.

    A chapter on the Santa Fe Expedition includes the narrative of Franklin Combs who was seventeen at the time. He gives a clear description of the hardships of the journey from Texas to New Mexico, with a recounting of the group's capture and their forced march 2000 miles to Mexico City.
