    [Fore-Edge Paintings]. Maurice Maeterlinck. Life and Flowers. London: George Allen, 1907. First English edition of this collection. Octavo. [viii], [312] pages. Bound by Bumpus in near-contemporary full green calf, spine lettered in gilt in compartments, five raised bands, gilt board edges and turn-ins. With a marvelous and bright fore-edge painting of a woman sniffing a rose, after the painting "My Sweet Rose," originally painted in 1908 by John Waterhouse. Spine sunned, front joint starting, some wear to spine edges and corners, some rubbing to binding. With the bookplates of Sir Weetman Pearson and his wife, Annie Cowdray. A good copy with a lovely fore-edge painting.

    With an attractive fore-edge painting of a prospector speaking to a trapper. Quarto. 762 pages. Contemporary full black pebbled morocco over beveled boards, boards ruled and paneled in blind, spine tooled in blind and lettered in gilt in compartments, five raised bands, gilt board edges and turn-ins, coated brown endleaves. Binding somewhat worn (especially at joints and corners), hinges cracked (yet still pretty solid), endleaves somewhat soiled, bookplates (one over another) on front pastedown. A good copy with an unusual fore-edge painting.
