    Description

[Fore-Edge Painting]. Leitch Ritchie. [Heath's Picturesque Annual, for 1833.] Travelling Sketches on the Rhine, and in Belgium and Holland. From Drawings by Clarkson Standfield, Esq. London: Longman, Rees, Orme, Brown, Green, and Longman, 1833. First edition. Octavo. Frontispiece, vignette title-page, and twenty-four additional engraved plates. iv, [4], 256 pages. Contemporary red straight-grain morocco, spine and boards decoratively stamped in gilt, boards with a blind-stamped decorative border; all text block edges trimmed and gilt. Mild wear at extremities of binding; narrow band of scuffing and one tiny repaired gouge at backstrip; pattern of wear along joints suggests possible repair (book appears to have been recased); very minor rubbing to edges. One bookseller's ticket at each pastedown; small strip of insect damage at foot of rear joint. Occasional faint spot of marginal spotting or smudging scattered throughout interior. Very good. Housed in custom pull-off case, in fair condition. With bright full-color fore-edge painting of a panorama view of a city from a river.
