    A Magnificent Nineteenth-Century English Double Fore-Edge Painting

[Fore-Edge Painting]. Alfred Tennyson. Queen Mary. A Drama. London: Henry S. King & Co., 1875. First edition. With the misprint on the first line of page 126. With two lovely English nineteenth-century fore-edge paintings: the harbor near Southampton, with a ship in the water and several homes and a church; a view of a large home in Aldwark (taken from notes in pencil on the front free endpaper). Both paintings are in full color, and quite detailed (possibly the work of Taylor & Hessey). Small octavo. viii, 278 pages. Finely bound in contemporary full burgundy pebbled morocco, covers ruled and paneled in gilt, with gilt floral cornerpieces, spine ruled, tooled, and lettered in gilt in compartments, five raised bands, gilt board edges and turn-ins, marbled endleaves. Joints worn (still solid), some rubbing to binding, hinges starting, rear free endpaper with a few short tears. Some foxing in text, contemporary ownership signature on first blank. A very good copy with superb fore-edge paintings.
