[Fine Binding by Root & Son]. Samuel Rogers. Italy [and] Poems. London: T. Cadell, 1830 [and] 1834. First editions. With Autograph Letter Signed by Samuel Rogers tipped-in to Italy. Two volumes. Quarto (7.75 x 4.875 inches; 197 x 124 mm). Engraved vignettes throughout, tissue guards. Beautifully and uniformly bound in full blue crushed morocco by Root & Son (stamp-signed in gilt to front dentelles) with exquisite bold floral and stippled design patterning on all covers and spine, gilt ruling, dots and strapwork motifs, double gilt-fillet rules to board edges; minor wear to joints, a few corners just bumped. Wide inner dentelles with attractive flowing floral patterns in gilt, marbled endpapers, all edges gilt, each volume with salmon colored silk ribbon marker, minor staining; front hinges starting, minor offsetting to endpapers. Internally generally clean; minor scattered foxing. Housed in a blue-gray cloth slipcase; minor staining and wear. Very good.

Autograph Letter Signed by Samuel Rogers to Lady Bunbury (Lady Sarah Lennox), seemingly misdated in another hand on integral address leaf, "Aug 1842." Two pages of a bifolium, reads in part, "Just now I have an Entanglement or two, but if I can release myself, I will not fail to write, trusting you will have the goodness to tell me frankly whether it suits you or not to receive me. Sincerely yours, S. Rogers." Creases along old folds, not affecting signature, ink strong and dark, near fine.
