[Featured Lot] [Walt Whitman contributor]. Mike Walsh, editor. The Subterranean. New York: Kimber & Kraft, July 15, 1843 -March 9, 1844. With the sixty-six line poem "Lesson of the Two Symbols" by Walter Whitman on the first page of the first issue. Complete run of thirty-five issues, each being eight pages long, bound as one volume. Two leaves missing from issue number 21 (pages 163-166). Tears with cellophane tape repairs to first and last leaves of issue number 23. Front board detached, rear board detaching, binding rubbed and lightly soiled; holograph pencil diagram of a house plan on the front free endpaper, pages heavily foxed and browned, few holograph pencil annotations, edge wear, creases, and corner bends. Otherwise a very rare collection in good or better condition. From the Estate of Rod McKuen.
