    More Information:

Johann Roszfeld (a.k.a. Rosinus), born ca. 1550 and educated at Jena, was sub-rector of a school at Ratisbon as well as minister of a Lutheran church at Wickerstadt (Weimar). He was subsequently called to preach at the cathedral church in Naumburg, Saxony, where he remained until he ultimately died of the plague in 1626.  This work, first printed at Basel in 1585, was at first censured by critics, but nevertheless went through several editions. Rosinus was the first to compose a body of Roman antiquities. This is a comprehensive work on the history of ancient Rome, with chapters on religion and priesthood, the pantheon of the gods, attire, law, politics, marriage and funeral rites, etc.
