Brigadier General Eppa Hunton II (1822-1908) commanded the 8th Virginia, Pickett's Division, for the duration of the war. The unit participated in every major campaign in the Eastern Theater. His autobiography is considered to be among the rarest and most desirable works written by a participant of the war. "Even if the book had not been printed in a very small edition so that it is a special desideratum of collectors of rarities it would be of importance as a record of soldier life as seen through the eyes of the colonel of the 8th Virginia Infantry." - In Tall Cotton 99. Dornbusch II, 2806. Howes H826.

Condition: Fine. Virtually blemish free externally and internally. Lacking front free endpaper. Previous owner's interesting account of how he acquired the book in 1966 written in pencil on the half-title page. He mentions that he tried to convince Eppa Hunton IV to let him reprint the book but Hunton replied "No, this is a private record for my family only".

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
