    Description

[Dutter]. Pietro Aretino. Capricciosi & Piaceuoli Ragionamenti. Stampati in Cosmopoli [Leiden]: [J. Elzevier], 1660. New edition. Fore-edge painting by Vera Elinor Dutter (1964) depicting "The Dance of the Baccantes," after Marc Charles Gabriel Gleyre, signed and titled. 12mo. 541, [2, blank], 38 pages. Early red morocco triple ruled in gilt, spine decorated in gilt with five raised bands and single solid gilt roll to edges. Rebacked, seemingly with original spine laid down, corners bumped and rubbed, moderate edgewear, somewhat rubbed and darkened. Inner dentelles gilt, marbled endpapers; endpapers somewhat faded, remnant of pasted bookseller's description to front pastedown. Internally generally clean and tight, all edges gilt; Dutter's signed and titled inscription in black ink to front blank verso, light pencil notations to front free endpaper and front blank, lightly toned in margins, somewhat foxed, moderate text block edgewear. Very good with bright, finely-detailed, and well-preserved fore-edge painting.

Weber, Annotated Dictionary, Dutter 3; pages 105-106. From the Estate of Randall J. Moskovitz, MD, Memphis, Tennessee
