All housed in uniform blue cloth folding chemises in quarter crushed blue morocco slipcases, spines with five raised bands, decorated and lettered in gilt; a few spines sunned, some rubbed. Please see the extended description online for the full condition of these volumes.
A very good set; although the tell-tale signs of an aging book are often present, (including foxing, staining, various stages of ownership), this is a remarkable set, of true historic importance, with excellent associations.

Vol. I: Corners bumped and rubbed, moderate edgewear with boards showing through, faded and illegible early ink notations to upper board. Hinges reinforced, front free endpaper repaired at gutter, rear free endpaper lacking roughly 1.25 inches from bottom margin, dried cello-tape residue to rear pastedown, dampstaining to front pastedown, pencil notations and ownership to front endpapers. Text block edges roughly trimmed, gutter cracked at page one, 3.5 x 0.5 inch open tear to top margin of title page, repaired.
Vol. II: Minor edgewear. Later endpapers, some offsetting, dried adhesive residue from removed label to rear pastedown. 0.31-inch closed tear through the "R" in Sherman's signature to the title page, pencil notations and repair to title page recto but not affecting text, expert repair to title page verso where "volume II" is stated, unobtrusive ink annotations to Index, approximately 1.5 inch closed tear to last text leaf.
Vol. III: Minor edgewear, spine somewhat rubbed. Pale green modern endpapers; minor offsetting, damage to front pastedown from removed bookplate. Second front blank detached but present, title page trimmed to top and fore-edge margins, affecting early ink ownership (?) , Gunning Bedford, jun. signature not affected, dampstaining to title page, John Langdon signature to top margin of page three, approximately 3-inch closed tear to title page, affecting title and early unidentified ink ownership in top margin but not affecting Bedford or Langdon signatures.

Vol. V: Corners bumped and rubbed, moderate edgewear with boards showing through, rubbed and worn, soiled. Old (contemporary?) repair to both hinges, ink ownership "Isaac Wayne" (?) and other early ink notations to rear pastedown, old cello-tape to rear pastedown. Moderate dampstaining to first two gatherings (including title page) and last few leaves, ink ownership to title is not Anthony Wayne, partially unopened.
Vol. VI: Corners bumped and rubbed, moderate edgewear with boards showing through, rubbed and worn, somewhat soiled. Old (contemporary?) repair to both hinges, dampstained. Edges roughly trimmed; text block unevenly toned.
Vol. VII: Minor edgewear. Later endpapers. Front hinge starting, rear endpapers lightly foxed. Internally generally clean, all edges trimmed, approximately 1.5 x 0.5 inch open tear to bottom margin of page 43 (not affecting text), minor foxing or staining to title page, text block toned.
Vol. VIII: Contemporary calf rubbed and worn with some losses, front joint starting, rear joint split and just barely holding at bottom, minor soiling. Later endpapers, hinges repaired but rear hinge now split and front hinge starting, bookseller's stamp in purple to front pastedown, some offsetting. All edges trimmed; edges toned with minor wear, moderate dampstaining beginning with Hhh to end.
Vol. IX: Later endpapers, minor soiling, front hinge just starting. All edges trimmed; repairs to title page along gutter, moderately toned, some soiling, text block edges toned with some soiling.
Vol. X: Later endpapers. Internally generally clean, all edges trimmed; gutter cracked at front blank, somewhat toned, title page with red ownership stamp "John Read Junior" (?) to top margin.
