    More Information:

"This is a neatly printed and very respectable performance; it is now uncommon. It is a reprint of the text of Aldus whose typographical errors Grynaeus has most religiously preserved. It is particularly valuable on account of the Commentary of Proclus on the Timaeus and Politica which is, occasionally found seperate." - Moss II: 425.

"Simon Grynaeus (c1494-1541) born in Veringendorf and educated with his life-long friend Melanchthon in Porzheim before attending university. He was professor of Greek at Heildelberg but in 1529 moved to Basel for the rest of his days. He was a mover in the development of scholarly printing at Basel. He travelled to England on the recommendation of Erasmus to seek out manuscripts for this edition of Proclus where he was warmly greeted by Thomas More. He was given permission to take some manuscipts of Proclus from the library at Oxford.

"To the lovers of the wisdom of the Greeks, any remains of the writings of Proclus will always be valuable, as he was a man who, for the variety of his powers, the beauty of his diction, the magnificence of his conceptions, and his luminous development of the abstruse dogmas of the ancients, is unrivalled among the disciples of Plato." Thomas Taylor, the Neo-Platonist.
