    Inscribed by Chester A. Arthur

[Chester A. Arthur]. Lieut. Matthew F. Maury. Report of Lieut. Matthew F. Maury, United States Navy, on the Loss of the United States Mail Steamer "Central America," Under the Command of Commander William Lewis Herndon, United States Navy. Washington: [No stated publisher]: 1884. First edition. Inscribed "To / Mrs. William A. Maury [presumably the author's wife] / With the sincere regards of / Chester A. Arthur / Nov. 1, 1884" on the flyleaf. Octavo. 15 pages, printed on the recto side. Modern brown cloth binding using portions of the gilt stamped leather from the original binding. Housed in a custom slipcase. Damp staining to endpapers, largely not affecting President Arthur's inscription. Otherwise, a very good copy. From a private collection in North Carolina.
