    Description

[Charles Dickens]. The Posthumous Papers of the Pickwick Club. London: Chapman & Hall, April 1836-Nov. 1837. Original monthly serials, mixed issue. Twenty parts in nineteen, octavo (8.8125 x 5.5625 inches; 224 x 141 mm.). Eight to twenty-four pages of preliminary advertisements; paginated continuously [1]-609 pages; with eight leaves of preliminaries following text in final part. Frontispiece, vignette title-page and thirty-eight additional inserted engravings, mostly by H. K. Browne. Original blue-green illustrated paper wrappers. A sophisticated set. All parts rebacked with wrappers reattached, remains of original backstrip laid down in some parts. Regular edge wear to wrappers; mended tears, chips; soft creasing, overall mild soiling, occasional inked or effaced pencil signature to front. Occasional light foxing, thumbsoiling throughout text block; some parts roughly opened; evidence of dog-earing. Generally good to very good. Housed in a custom chemise and slipcase. Specific printing points and condition notes available online. Hatton & Cleaver, pp. 3-88. From the collection of Jerome P. O'Connor.

Part XV "Royal Beulah Spa & Gardens" ad printed on yellow paper, not accounted for in Hatton & Cleaver. "The Comic Annual for 1838" ad in Part XIX/XX does not read "1388," therefore later. The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
