    A Decorative Sixteenth Century Missal

    [Catholic Church]. [Missale ad consuetudinem Ecclesie Romane]. Paris: Thielmanni Kerver, 1506. Title page lacking. [6], 233, [3] leaves. Later vellum with gilt rules to boards, gilt bands and decorations to spine, neat ink holograph title and date to spine, all edges gilt, marbled end papers. Text in red and black, decorated initials, music staves, full page engraving and large historiated initial both depicting crucifixion of Christ in color. Many initials throughout the text highlighted with color. Two leaves between 53 and 55 with holograph ink words and music on rectos and versos. Bookplate of Anne C. Morrel on verso front free endpaper. Boards rubbed and lightly soiled, some wear and loss of gilt; small ink stamp on lower right corner of first printed page, small tear in text of leaf 70, stain along inner margins of leaves 50 (verso) and 51 (recto) between engraving of crucifixion and facing large historiated initial, holograph ink annotations to two blank leaves at back of book on both recto and verso occasional stains and smudges, else a lovely copy in very good condition.
