The First Edition of the King James Bible Printed at Cambridge

[Bible in English]. The Holy Bible Containing the Old Testament and the New. Newly translated out of the originall tongues and with the former translations diligently compared and revised by his Majesties Speciall command. Cambridge: Tho: Buck and Roger Daniel, [1629]. First edition of the first King James Bible printed in Cambridge. [Together With:] The Book of Common Prayer, and Administration of the Sacraments... Cambridge: Thomas and John Buck, 1629. [And:] The New Testament of Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Cambridge: Thomas and John Buck, 1629. Three parts in two quarto volumes (Old Testament in volume I, Book of Common Prayer and the New Testament in volume II). Approximately 11.5 x 7.5 inches. [xiv], 540; [80], 671-842, [9],[90],541-668 pages. These volume bound with red-lined blank leaves between virtually every leaf of text, most leaves with ink notes and commentary. Bound in eighteenth-century full brown calf. Both volumes rebacked at a later date in matching brown calf, spines stamped in gilt, both volumes lacking lettering labels, corners strengthened. Front board of volume I nearly detached, bindings worn, headcap of volume II torn, some toning, thumbsoiling to text, two leaves in volume II with long tears (no loss in text). Bookplates. Overall, a good example of this rare bible. Front boards stamped "BK" in gilt, presumably from the library of Benjamin Kennicott (1718-1783) and English clergyman and Hebrew scholar, and author of the majestic Vetus Testamentum hebraicum cum variis lectionibus (1776-1780), a comprehensive (at the time) collation of all Hebrew texts prior to the invention of printing. It is assumed the ink notations are his. Herbert 424.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
