A Very Rare Pamphlet on an Indian Treaty Printed by Benjamin Franklin

[Benjamin Franklin, printer]. A Treaty, Held at the Town of Lancaster, In Pennsylvania, by the Honourable the Lieutenant-Governor of the Province, and the Honourable the Commissioners for the Provinces of Virginia and Maryland, with the Indians of the Six Nations, in June, 1744. Philadelphia: B. Franklin, 1744. First edition (this is the third of thirteen Indian treaties printed by Franklin). Folio. Approximately 11.25 x 7.25 inches. 39, [1, blank] pages. Disbound. Leaves a bit toned, some intermittent foxing, occasional ink stains. Still, a very good example of this rare item. This treaty concentrates on land claims and hunting rights on the western frontiers of Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Maryland. Within the text are several examples of complaints by the Indian representatives about abuse and maltreatment: "After we left Albany, we brought our Road a great deal more to the West, that we might comply with your Proposal; but, tho' it was of your own making, your People never observed it, but came and lived on our Side of the Hill ... and we ... altered the Road again, and brought it to the Foot of the Great Mountain, where it now is; and it is impossible for us to remove it any further to the West, those Parts of the Country being absolutely impassable by either Man or Beast." George Thomas, the Lieutenant Governor of Pennsylvania presided over the conference (and represented Pennsylvania), which was attended by representatives from the colonies of Virginia and Maryland, as well as delegates from the Seneca, Onondaga, Oneida, Cayuga, and Tuscarora tribes. The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
