First Rackham edition, deluxe issue, limited to 520 copies, with the first half reserved for Great Britain and Ireland and the other half for the United States, of which this is number 190, and signed by the illustrator. Quarto (11.375 x 9 inches; 290 x 230 mm.). xiii, [1, characters], 185, [1, blank] pages; frontispiece and nineteen additional illustrated plates tipped to leaves of the text, with an extra plate, not in the trade issue, at the front. Publisher's quarter-vellum over white paper-covered boards, spine and front board lettered and stamped in gilt; top edge gilt, others untrimmed; in original dust jacket. Backstrip faintly discolored and lightly soiled; boards lightly soiled with the paper rippling or bubbling in some places; board edges lightly rubbed and soiled; corners softly bumped. Two-letter ink notation to the bottom margin of page 184. Dust jacket spine panel faintly tanned with a couple minor scuffs; spine ends worn, with nicks to the bottom edge of the spine folds and slightly larger chips to the crown with short closed tears; rear panel rubbed; folds creased; upper margin lightly wrinkled; some minor edgewear.
