Screenplay Draft for North by Northwest

[Alfred Hitchcock]. Ernest Lehman. The Man on Lincoln's Nose. [N.p., 7-21-58]. Unknown draft. Most pages dated 7-21-58, but the last several pages are a revised ending and are dated 8-8-58. Mimeograph copy. Quarto. Approximately 11 x 8.5 inches. 184 numbered pages, rectos only. Pink paper. Original light green plain paper wraps. Three holes on left margin, two rusted brads present. Cover sheets toned and worn with some chipping and short tears, minor rubbing to edge of text. Still, fine. Rare with this earlier title, with many differences from the final film, including an opening narration to be read ("possibly") by Hitchcock.

[Together With:] [Alfred Hitchcock.] "North by Northwest." Production notes for two major sequences. Four quarto leaves ("SUGGESTED ROUTINE OF CAR CHASE", n.d.) and three quarto leaves ("MOUNT RUSHMORE", Monday October 27th), each stapled at upper left. Approximately 11 x 8.5 inches, on white paper, rectos only. A bit toned, Car Chase notes with vertical and horizontal creases, lower left corner of Mount Rushmore notes creased. Near fine.

    More Information:

The notes for the car chase are detailed moment to moment camera shots when Thornhill drunkenly drives the Mercedes Benz through the mountains - up to the point where the police see him and begin pursuit. The Mount Rushmore camera notes and dialogue begin with Thornhill and Eve's escape from Vandamm's house and their perilous climb down the monument.

North by Northwest (1959) is one of Hitchcock's most successful films, starring Cary Grant as Thornhill, James Mason as Vandamm, and Eva Marie Saint as Eve Kendall. Lehman was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Writing, Story and Screenplay - Written Directly for the Screen (1960).

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
