[A. M. Broadley]. Norwood Young. Napoleon in Exile: Elba. London: [1914]. First edition. One of three large paper copies.

    More Information:

[A. M. Broadley]. Norwood Young. Napoleon in Exile: Elba. With a Chapter on the Iconography by A. M. Broadley. London: Stanley Paul & Co., [1914]. First edition. Large thick quarto. One of only three large paper copies (so stated on the spine).

Illustrated with fifty (of fifty-one) plates from Mr. Broadley's collection mounted on fine paper (missing plate at page 216). It also appears that an attempt has been made to extra-illustrate the book, as there are a few extra plates bound in and three laid in at the front, perhaps waiting to be inserted. Broadley's copy, with his bookplate on the front pastedown. Three-quarter brown morocco over green cloth-covered boards by Cedric Chivers. Decoratively stamped and titled in gilt in spine compartments with three inlaid lozenges bearing the letter "N". Top edge gilt. Marbled endpapers. Moderate wear to the boards, with noticeable rubbing at the edges, corners, and light flaking along the joints. Light, even toning to the margins of the textblock. Previous owner's bookplate below Broadley's on the front pastedown. A near fine copy of a lovely book rarely found in this format.
