Description

    Yuri Gagarin: Zippered Vinyl Portfolio Inscribed to U.S.S.R. Deputy Foreign Minister. The zippered brown heather folder measures 14.5" x 10" and is embossed in red, in Russian, "XXIII/ Congress/ CPSU." It was signed for and presented by Gagarin to Nikolai Rodionov on April 6, 1966, almost five years to the day after Gagarin became the first man in space. It is signed inside, in Russian: "Nikolai Nikolayevich/ Rodionov/ in remembrance of our position in the/ 23rd Congress of the CPSU./ With sincere respect/ Gagarin/ 6.4.66." Rodionov was a member of the Central Committee of the CPSU (Communist Party of the Soviet Union) and later Kosygin's Deputy Foreign Minister and Soviet Ambassador to Yugoslavia. The 23rd Congress of the CPSU was held in March 1966. Yuri Gagarin was killed in a training flight on March 27, 1968. Minor wear as expected, fine.
